January 9th Regular Meeting
The meeting was called to order by Tom Rougeaux.
The Christmas Party was a HUGE HIT with great food, good fellowship and the added attraction of South High's own Morris O' Kelly Jazz Band. The membership so enjoyed the entertainment that a motion was passed to show our appreciation with a special donation to Mr. O'Kelly for his students. Special Thanks to Geoff Graue for all his hard work in organizing the event and to John Barrington for his attention to ' beverages'. If you missed it you really missed it! To view the party pictures please visit the Club website at www.hrsc.org sorry no audio.
NEWS FLASH!!! The new 'Club Shirts' are in. If you have yet to pick up your order or would like to purchase a new shirt out of our limited stock, please give Red Jung a call at (310) 375-1084. The Club also now has a new supply of hats for use at coming events. Thanks go to Red Jung and Chris Collignon for coordinating the new shirt and hat order.
Russ LaFevere who was awarded a Congressional fellowship last year with Sen. Rockefellers Washington D.C. office was in town and paid the club a surprise visit. It seems our man Russ was in Washington D.C. on Sept. 11 and shortly after the Senators office faced an anthrax scare. Russ and staff had to be evacuated and were all given a precautionary dose of Cipro. It was gratefully later determined that Russ and his colleagues had not been exposed to anthrax and other than a few rattled nerves, all are well.
Philanthropic Committee Chairman, Allan Watt, advised that the next committee meeting is scheduled for Jan 16, 02. Allen also reminded that Donation Recipients will be attending the Feb. 13, 2002 meeting to acknowledge our donations. Please be sure to mark your calendar to attend.
Golf Outing update: George Zettler reported that the April golf outing at River Ridge Golf Club had to be cancelled due to over booking by River Ridge. George is doing his best to organize a new outing at San Louis Ray Downs, April 16th and 17th.
We will again try for a weekend golf outing at River Ridge this fall. For more information and reservations for the April Outing, please contact George.
Tom Rougeaux gave an update on the Club facility lease and
the Redondo Beach Fair.
Our renewed 2-year lease has been finalized with some minor changes to benefit all. To afford better access for all, we will be moving items that are currently in the shed to new storage space within the facility. The Shed is to be moved to the property next door with a new 'horse shoe pit' to be built in its place.
The Clubs participation in this years Redondo Beach Fair (Frontier Days) is yet to be determined. The Redondo Camber of Commerce is changing the format of the fair to a " Bite Of " style Art Fair where local restaurants would act as the Fairs food vendors showcasing their respective food specialties. Tom is Scheduled to meet with a member of the originazing committee with details and outcome to follow.
Sam Martelaro, on behalf of Cub Scout Pack 718, asked for Sportsmen to please sign up to help judge this year Cub's "Pinewood Derby".
Dick Rector gave a brief report and asked for support for our local 'Underground Utility Neighborhood Committee', which is trying to have utility wires in our neighborhood placed underground.
