Established in 1949 by a handful of civic-minded residents of the Riviera, the club was organized to promote community improvement. Our organization is non-sectarian and non-political devoted exclusively to promoting fellowship among the families of the Riviera and sponsoring community support projects. We raise money to support our children and schools and we volunteer our time to support community activities.
Through the leadership of the Hollywood Riviera Sportsman's Club, the first Community Building was erected at El Retiro Park. Senior Citizens' shuffleboard courts were constructed and equipped at Walteria Park with the club's support and guidance. The club also provided the funds to build the snack shack at South High School football field.
Hollywood Riviera Sportsman's Club raises funds that benefit a variety of youth organizations in the Riviera. The club has sponsored, equipped and assisted Boy and Girl Scout troops, Little League and Pony League baseball and softball teams and facilities.
The club recognizes scholastic achievements by awarding annual scholarships to selected graduating seniors at South High. The club also recognizes outstanding effort by High School teachers with its highly regarded Socrates Award.
Hollywood Riviera Sportsman's Club provides capital funds and equipment to schools, libraries and senior citizens' centers in the Riviera area. Our philanthropic program has provided much-needed computer equipment to Riviera Elementary and Richardson Middle School. El Retiro and Walteria libraries have received magazine racks and other equipment over the years through club donations.
Our annual Easter Egg Hunt held the Saturday before Easter is a Riviera tradition. Held solely for the youngest members of our community, it has been a sellout every year, even in the rain!
The organization raises its philanthropic funds through three events over the course of its fiscal year. All the money collected at these events is donated back to the Riviera community through our philanthropic program.
At the Manhattan Beach Fair held the first weekend inOctober, the Hollywood Riviera Sportsman's Club sells its famous funnel cakes. Our booth is so popular that people make it a point to visit our booth every year to enjoy the freshly-made and tasty confection we serve.
We also run a funnel cake booth at the Riviera Days held in mid-April. We always enjoy the spring weather and fun crowds that attend the event to celebrate the end of a cold winter.
Our final event for the year is the Pancake Breakfast held the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend. This event is a true neighborhood tradition. We serve thousands of pancakes to our friends and neighbors who come for not only the best pancakes in South Bay, but also to renew old friendships and make new ones as well.
Any non-profit organization that benefits South Bay children can sell tickets. We return over 80% of the ticket price to the selling organization. This is our largest and most successful fund raising project of the year.
Club membership is available to all male residents of the Hollywood Riviera community. Our club is a small investment in time and money. Annual dues of $50 provides funds to support special activities such as dinners, golf outings, chili cookoff and other activities to promote fellowship among our members and their guests. There is probably no other service organization that has as much fun and is as successful in making a difference in the Riviera community.
